These two themes kind of naturally go together. You could do them in one day, or take two days!
Color Search … This has been one of my kids favorite activities with colors and so simple.
Make circle cut-outs of each color with the color name printed on each, then laminated them.
Show the kids one color and let them run to find something that is that color and put it on top of the circle.
Then show them the next color circle, they run to find something that color. On and on. Don’t know why, but they love it!
Make recycled crayons
Unwrap old crayons and break into pieces.
Mix in a muffin tin (spray with cooking spray or line with tin foil if you're worried about sticking)
Melt in the oven at 275 degrees for 7-8 minutes. They do melt fairly quickly so keep an eye on them!
Let cool completely.
NOTE: this batch above actually ruined my pan. Half popped right out and half stuck. There was wax in the tins that I couldn’t ever get out. I’ve done these before and didn’t have a problem, so maybe I lined the pan with tin foil?! Just a warning Here’s a great tutorial from makeandtakes.com
Make a rainbow with cereal … we do this every year and my kids love it!
Draw a simple rainbow on paper.
Trace each color with glue.
Let the kids use colored cereal (Trix or Fruit Loops work well) to make a rainbow!
Color Collage
Cut out red, orange, yellow, green, blue & purple objects out of a magazine (the kids can rip the objects out or practice using scissors).
Glue onto matching paper.
Simple (and free) Colors Book! … Nothing But Country shared this great idea for making a colors book using paint chips.
Gather a rainbow of colored paint chips (from a store like Home Depot)
Punch a hole in the corner of each.
Make a cute cover by tracing the shape of the paint chips on cardstock and printing a title on the front.
Put in rainbow colors order (she also included black, white and pink. I’d also throw in brown and grey)
Loop on a loopy clip … what are they called?!!
Tie on a cute ribbon and you’re done!
Snack Idea:rainbow fruit kabobs ... red (apples) orange (oranges) yellow (bananas) green (grapes) blue (blueberries). Cut into bite-sized pieces and thread onto skewers.
I found a great book to go along with this. It is called The Day the Crayons Quit. My son loves this book, it is very funny and a great way for them to learn colors!
That is one of our favorite books! We are going to use that one and the new one called "The Day the Crayons Came Home" for our "C is for Crayons" day this month! They are hilarious! Thanks for sharing!
